Thornden School would like to appoint an enthusiastic Design & Technology Teacher to join our team at Thornden School. The successful candidate will be a self-motivated individual who will be passionate about Design & Technology. We welcome applications from teachers at all stages of their career, including Early Career Teachers (ECTs).
Within the Technology department at Thornden, we offer a wide range of courses that come under the Technology umbrella. In Key stage 3 students follow modular courses of the key material areas within Design & Technology these include: Food, Graphics, Systems/Engineering, Textiles and Resistant Materials. We are a very popular choice for our students at GCSE level. We offer GCSE Design & Technology in Paper & Boards, Timbers and Textiles, GCSE Engineering and GCSE Food Preparation & Nutrition. The successful candidate will need to be able to teach a wide range of the material areas at Key Stage three, however applications are welcome from candidates who specialise in any of the following: Design & Technology (Timber's specialist) or Engineering at Key Stage 4 GCSE level.
There is a potential 2nd in Design & Technology Department role available. Please state in your application if you wish to be considered for this additional element of 2nd in Department.

About the role:
- Deliver high-quality Design & Technology lessons to Key Stage 3 and 4 students
- Support the department in raising and maintaining high standards of student attainment and achievement
- Promote active learning, monitor progress, and be accountable for student progress in Design & Technology
- Contribute to a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment, aligned with safeguarding practices
- Collaborate with colleagues on curriculum development and participate in departmental activities, including trips and open days.
We are seeking an individual who has:
- A degree in a relevant subject and Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
- Proven experience teaching or training in a comprehensive school setting, covering Key Stages 3 and 4
- Competence in teaching at least one of the following to GCSE level: Design & Technology , Engineering.
- A strong understanding of safeguarding practices, classroom management skills, and the ability to foster a safe learning environment
- Emotional resilience, professionalism, and a collaborative mindset, with excellent communication skills.
