Su Whelan to leave HISP Multi Academy Trust

Su Whelan, the founding Chief Executive Officer of the HISP Multi-Academy Trust, has announced that she is to leave the Trust.

A former Executive Headteacher at Thornden School in Chandlers Ford where she helped create the HISP Multi Academy Trust, Su has decided to step back from the role and has informed the Trustees of her decision. She will leave at the end of her notice period at Easter 2024.

She has worked at Thornden and the Trust for more than 20 years.

Su returned to work in the spring of 2023 after eight months away following a diagnosis and subsequent treatment and surgery for breast cancer. She continues to make a very good recovery and is well.

Su said: “Having returned to work following a lengthy period of treatment and recovery from surgery, I have decided that I should stop and give myself some time and space to think about the future and what I want to do.”

Andrew Parr, Chair of Trustees for HISP, said: "Su has been an outstanding leader of the HISP Multi Academy Trust, and her drive and commitment has helped us to get to where we are today. She will leave very big shoes to fill.

"We have already started the process to recruit the next Chief Executive of HISP to ensure the transition to a new CEO is as smooth as possible and secure the continued growth and development of HISP".
